I feel like a genius. I think this may be the recipe that makes me fall in love with my tmx! Now I’m very slow on the bandwagon. People have been making Tortillas forever and all have their own recipe.

Today I thought I’d give them a whirl for dinner. With no Internet access I winged this recipe but they turned out really well. I won’t be buying this ever again and I have so many variations running through my head that I want to try! These will be a regular here as they are relatively quick and easy. I really enjoyed making these too.
I love watching the tortillas bubble up before flipping.

They are a great substitute for sandwiches and much quicker to make.

My Tortillas/Wraps:

The 4 Blades have a great gluten free option that I have heard great things about.

Tortillas

  • Author: The road to loving my Thermo Mixer
  • Total Time: 40

Description

Why buy store bought Tortillas when you can make them at home quickly and easily?

Ingredients

Scale
  • 335g bakers flour
  • 170g water
  • 40g olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Instructions

  1. Place everything into the tmx bowl.
  2. Blitz on speed 6 just to slightly combine.
  3. Lock lid and press interval speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Let it sit for 15 minutes. See note below however.
  5. Remove from bowl. Divide your dough into 8 pieces.
  6. Using a little flour to dust (optional), roll out your dough into thin circles. My shape is a bit rustic. You want it only a few millimeters in thickness so they cook quickly and evenly.
  7. I rolled all my 8 balls before commencing the cooking process.
  8. Place a large frying pan on a medium heat. Once warm place a tortilla on it.
  9. Once they start bubbling, flip it over.
  10. You will only need to cook for a minute or so each side but keep an eye on them so they don’t burn. You want them to be cooked but still flexible.
  11. Place it onto a plate with a tea towel over the top.
  12. Continue to cook all Tortillas, placing them one on top of the other. The heat keeps them nice and flexible.
  13. The first one or two Tortillas in each batch tend to be a bit harder and cardboard like whilst finding the right temp of the pan. If you have a hard, non flexible wrap, place it underneath all the other wraps. It will soon soften from the heat and be yummy like the rest of them.

Notes

  • These can be frozen. Just thaw and warm before eating.
  • I don’t rest mine anymore between kneading and rolling out of laziness. I roll immediately with no issues.

Made these for tea last night for the first time and my kids LOVED them. So much in fact that I have just made another batch so my son and I can have them for lunch and my daughter can have some after school! Thanks for a quick and simple recipe! Beats driving to the shop and paying far more!

These are so easy to make and so delicious. Can’t believe I used to waste money on store bought wraps! They keep well in the fridge for a few days too – just microwave to re soften and yum!

OMG, finally some tortillas that actually worked! These are delish (are as in, I’m eating one as I wrote this!). My fussy tortilla 4yo is even enjoying them 🙂 I just need to find an olive oil with less smell as I can taste it a bit too much, but with some raw honey on top it covers the oil flavour.
    Thank you! xxx

Love these!! Will never go back to store bought ones! I use them for chimichangas which I then freeze for lunch boxes – they defrost really well. Kids ask for them all the time. Thanks for another winner Peta!!!

Awesome, easy and tasty! I love that these wraps have four ingredients compared to 15-20 of even some of the ‘healthy’ wraps on the market! Peta, I am telling all my non-Thermie friends about you too! Your recipes are amazing! Thanks!

Omg never again 🙁 these took me over an hour from start to finish…. So fiddly to roll out and then to handle. They were all eadible and nice tasting but just so long to roll out! Would rather spend the $5 to buy them next time!

    • Peta January 19, 2015 at 9:17 am - Reply

Wow! 15 minutes and I can have mine rolled and cooked ready to eat. Mr 6 year old is now my roller – 15-30 seconds each to roll at most. Was this your first time? First time will naturally take longer unless you are some magical super chef 🙂

    • Lauren March 17, 2015 at 1:23 pm - Reply

I’d rather spend the time and effort than have all those additives and preservatives you have with your $5.00 Four ingredients vs twenty!

Love homemade tortillas! Everyone looks amazed when you bring them out to the table 😉 used to make them in my Grandmas old Kenwood but got the best xmas pressie of my thermie and now we are best friends!
Top tip: as you cook pop them in your thermoserver, they stay warm and lovely and soft! 🙂

oh these look awesome! I have a bellini rather than tmx but keen to give these a go… My boys eat wraps for lunch at school instead of regular bread, do they stay ok if I make them the tortillas the night before, then assemble them in the morning to pop in their lunchbox? Or do they need to be warm to stay flexible to roll them?

    • Peta February 5, 2015 at 12:21 pm - Reply

No thats fine. I keep a batch in a large ziplock bag in the fridge for the following days.

Thank you for this recipe! We haven’t had wraps since last August as I couldn’t find any to fit my daughter’s intolerances. Now we’ve had them twice in two weeks thanks to you. The whole family has loved the plain ones and the Shrek/Ninja Turtle ones too.

  27. Bronwen March 29, 2015 at 2:24 pm - Reply

I found the rolling out part kind of annoying too but I think it was mainly because I was expecting them to come out bigger and I just couldn’t get them to the size I pictured. (Also each time I picked them up they shrunk back a bit.) But that was the only fiddly bit, the rest of it was super easy and I love how they cook up in the pan! I’ve made them for tomorrow night, looking forward to eating them!

These are seriously the tastiest wraps. They make a big difference to the flavour or burritos, i love how soft and flavoursome they are.

They are a bit challenging to roll round, but i will take the flavour over perfect shape any day!

So glad you like them. We absolutely love them too. SO easy and great to have on hand.
