I was recently approached by the Entertainment Book to see if I would like to participate in some fundraising this year.

For those who have never heard of the Entertainment Book? Entertainment Books contain thousands of valuable (up to 50% off and 2-for-1 offers) from many of the best restaurants, cafés, arts, attractions, hotel accommodation, travel and much more in your state! Those that know me know I love a bargain! The book contains over $20,000 worth of bargains. My favourites are all the 2 for 1 tourist attractions for the kiddies and the great Coles discounts (and not to forget the Dan Murphy one for those that love a drink!)

Being a  lover of the Entertainment Book, a bargain and helping local charities I couldn’t refuse. The charity I have chosen to donate all fundraising to is The Yellow Food Van. We are all lucky and are able to whip up fabulous meals in our Thermomixes and kitchens however some people aren’t so fortunate. Here is a little bit more about The Yellow Food Van:

The Yellow Van is the only food rescue service in Canberra and we assist a range of agencies, including domestic violence refuges, disability support services, homeless shelters, youth drop-in centres, mental health support groups, people with drug, alcohol or gambling problems, refugee programs, school breakfast programs, and other programs assisting those who have financial difficulties.
Today almost 2,000 Canberrans are homeless or at risk of homelessness.  Coupled with increasing pressure on low income families due to the high cost of housing, the demand for our services has dramatically increased.
The food rescue model of The Yellow Van is extremely efficient and practical and for less than $1, a meal is rescued, transported and delivered to Care&Share and 80 other charities around Canberra and the Yass Valley, who ensure people in need in our community are looked after. Each month, we rescue and deliver over 20 tonnes of good food,  providing over 60,000 meals to disadvantaged people in the community – an equivalent of 2,000 meals a day.  In doing so, we also ensure that 16 million litres of water used to produce this food is not wasted and that good food is saved from landfill.
However, The Yellow Van receives no ACT or Australian Government funding and relies heavily on community support through individual donations. https://food-rescue.commsatwork.org/yellow-van-food-rescue
