Roasted Capsicum and Tomato Paste

  • Author: The road to loving my Thermo Mixer
  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes

Description

Making your own tomato paste at home is a breeze!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1kg halved fresh tomatoes or 3 x 400g diced tinned tomatoes
  • 500g roasted capsicum strips or halves
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1 teaspoon of herbamare salt, or salt
  • 20g olive oil, or use oil from the roasted capsicum jar if applicable

Instructions

  1. Place everything into bowl.
  2. Blitz on speed 7 for 4 seconds.
  3. Place steaming basket on top of the lid to avoid splatters.
  4. Cook at steaming temperature, speed 2 for 40 minutes.
  5. At the 40 minute mark check your paste. If using tinned tomatoes your paste does thicken up slightly quicker I find so 40 minutes should be fine.
  6. If you would like it much thicker like store bought paste, continue to cook at steaming temperature on speed 2 for up to another 20 minutes.
  7. Each batch will differ slightly in time depending on how juicy your tomatoes are.
  8. Once finished cooking, blitz your paste on speed 10 for 30 seconds.
  9. Store in the fridge once cooled or freeze.
  10. I find this is enough for 6-8 pizza bases.

Notes

  • You may know steaming temperature as Varoma temperature if you own a Thermomix.
